Eclipsed Bodies: A Queer Chest Hope
This installation reimagines the Hope Chest, a traditional Anatolian wedding ritual for the bride-to-be, as a deeply personal and intimate exploration of love from a queer perspective.
Inspired by an intense love story, it seeks to capture both the human and spiritual dimensions of love while reflecting on its capacity to reshape. By exploring how love alters a person, similar to the collision of two masses, the work suggests that love—more profound than mere affection—may be the force through which confronting another reveals one’s psyche – this vast ocean where brave divers search for hidden treasures, uncharted depths, and the mysteries of the self.
Instead of embodying voyeurism or concealment, the installation transforms into a powerful act of exhibition—an unapologetic revelation of what is deemed taboo or shameful. Just as in the original tradition, these hidden aspects are boldly exposed and shared with visitors, inviting them to partake in a ritual of openness, vulnerability, and connection.
